Is Crete Open For Tourists?

I know most people are wondering about Crete and are probably asking, is Crete open for tourists? Today we were running some errands and on our way we couldn’t but notice that restaurants and hotels are busy getting things ready. There were lots of activities repairs, painting flower beds being repaired, swimming pools being cleaned overall a sign of good things to come.

It was quite refreshing to see that because we’ve been in lockdown for a long time now, we have almost forgotten how it feels like to go out for a meal. So is Crete open for tourists? No. It’s not open yet but things are looking up.

Although the numbers of cases are still not looking so good still, with Greece reporting a total of 2000 new cases on Tuesday 6th of April 2021, we hope that the country will be able to open for tourists soon. As it is now, no, Crete is not open for tourists yet. Shops, cafes, and hotels are still closed.

Is Crete Open For Tourists? If Not, When Will Crete Open For Tourists?

According to the Greek tourism minister, Greece will fully open for tourists on May 14th, with complete safety measures in place. The minister did also stress that the rules put in place apply equally for both visitors and the citizens. Crete is respected to welcome about 2 million tourists in 2021, with early bookings proving that 2021 will be better than 2020.

Crete is the most popular among Greek islands, it’s in the front lines to ensure that tourism flourishes despite the current situation. This year the island is better and well-equipped according to the authorities. With vaccinations taking place, and implementation of the rules, it might translate into even more bookings.

That being said, I understand that the country needs to open for the tourist season because tourism is crucial for the economy, but we still need to be careful and observe the rules, because as I mentioned, the numbers are not looking so good still.

The Weather Is Getting Better And Spring Is Finally Here

Although it’s been reported that the temperatures will drop slightly from tonight(Wednesday) it’s said by the weekend the warm weather will be back. It’s been quite confusing weather-wise this year, Yesterday we had very high winds that we don’t usually get until maybe July and August.

It was so bad that we lost power for hours, and most of the snow on the white mountains was blown away. On a side note, if you are planning to move to Crete, it might be an idea to invest in a generator because power cuts are normal here, especially when there is a storm.

Conclusion

So if you were wondering if you should get your bags ready in preparation for your Cretan vacation, well, you can start preparing but you probably won’t be able to come here until maybe May Or June. I sure hope things will work out this year and I hope this crisis will be behind us soon.

I was talking to someone just recently who said this virus will never go away and we just have to learn to live with it. Well, I sure hope that’s not true because that means things will never be the same ever again. As it is now, I feel like the whole world needs a hug or a therapy session.
