Let’s talk about Instagram spots in Crete. Did you know that Crete has some of the best photo spots in comparison to other Greek islands? I know that people think Santorini, and Mykonos are the top Instagram spots When it comes to photo spots, but today I am going to share with you some spots that will blow your mind.

In my opinion, when it comes to Instagram spots in Crete, you have a variety of things. It’s not like, let’s say Santorini where once you take the photo of the blue rooftops and the black sandy beach, what’s left? In Crete you have it all, historical monuments, different beaches and of course the famous Samaria gorge.

Instagram Spots In Crete Chania The Old Habour

in Chania alone, you have the old town and the lighthouse, a picture taken at the old harbor is breathless.

Also in the Chania area is here you will find the most beautiful beaches including the famous pink sand beach called Elafonisi.

Elafonisi The Pink Sandy Beach

I think I have talked about Elafonisi beach in the past. The beach gives you the most beautiful color for your Instagram photo The Pink sand and the sapphire blue waters make your photo absolutely breathtaking.

You don’t even need an expensive camera to capture the most beautiful photos at Elafonisi, you can just lie on the sand and have your photo take, and it’s gonna be amazing.

The Lighthouse in Chania

This is one of the most photographed monuments in Chania and actually, it could be the most photographed place in Crete

The lighthouse offers you the most beautiful background especially if the photo is taken in the evening or early morning.

The Old Town Of Chania

Charming streets of the old town give you that romantic setting for your photos, there are some old buildings and narrow walkways. small cafes, and small shops selling traditional jewelry, and other stuff. You just need to catch the light perfectly and your photo will be busting with warm colors.

Instagram Spots In Crete Spinalonga

How would you like to take your followers on a journey into History? Spinalonga is one of the most exciting and interesting places in Crete. The small islet of Spinalonga has been featured in novels, documentaries, and TV series. Spinalonga is located in the Gulf of Elounda in the northeastern part of Crete. To get to Spinalonga from Heraklion it takes roughly 1 hour 30 minutes.

But if you are going to Spinalonga from Chania, it’s better to plan a night in Plaka so you can get to Spinalonga refreshed and ready to take your photos. As it could take up to 4 hours to get there from Chania by car.

And if you opt to go by boat From Rethymno, it could take the whole day to get there. So Yeah, a night in Plaka, then an early photo-taking session.

 Instagram Spots In Crete Heraklion

The City of Heraklion is the capital city of Crete and the fourth largest city in Greece, Heraklion is home to some of the most fantastic tourist attractions including The Minoan Palace of Knossos.

Koules Fortress is also another photo spot and it’s just at the port, just a short distance from the city center. So you can start there, and move to other spots.

This is an amazing place, the Minoan Palace of Knossos gives us a glimpse of how the Minoans lived many thousands of years ago. If you are interested in archeological sites, then Knossos will captivate you.

One thing is for sure, you will take some really amazing pictures in Knossos.

 Instagram Spots In Crete Vineyards In Chania

Remember, when I told you the beauty of photo spots in Crete is that you have a variety of scenes? Well, how about visiting one of the vineyards in Chania and take your Instagram photos there.

My recommendation is a winery called Dourakis Winery. They have a vineyard that stretches for miles and you have the backdrop of the white mountains which gives you an amazing photo especially if you come to create in September.

The winery also has many fun activities including wine tasting, picnic in the vineyard, and the most delicious meals carefully prepared using authentic Cretan recipes.

Samaria Gorge, Where Strenght And Endurance Is Tested

OK, if you want to hike the Samaria gorge for the purpose of taking pictures, you better take many pictures a few miles into the hike, because towards the end you will be so tired, I don’t even think you will look very nice in the pictures.

The hike takes roughly 6 hours and it’s not for the faint of heart. But you will get some amazing photos.

 Instagram Spots In Crete Kalives Beach

Kalives Beach is located just 19km west of Chania, it’s a beautiful beach, and there are many seaside restaurants and cafes.

If you come to Crete in May, you are going to experience the most beautiful colors, there will be wildflowers everywhere, the mountains will still have snow, and the orange and lemon trees will have fruits. That will translate into the most beautiful pictures.

Conclusion

Crete being the biggest island in Greece gives you many options for Instagram photos. From beaches to historical, and archeological sites, Crete has it all.

As a matter of fact, you might have to stay longer than you thought in Crete because there are just so many places and so many things to photograph.

I know photographers who have made Crete their base and they travel to different places on the island just taking pictures.
